Railroad Communications

With a variety of configuration options and an extensive network of manufacturing partners, JEM has become a quality standard among railroads.

Our Railroad Products

JEM began its collaboration with the railroad industry with the introduction of the JEM Radio in 2004. Since then we’ve expanded our portfolio to include a wide array of communications equipment and peripherals, tailored explicitly for the modern locomotive.

JEM Power Shedder | Railroad Communication Equipment

JEM Power Shedder

The JEM Power Shedder is UL Recognized E509290 and provides ON/OFF control of four (4) conditioned and two (2) unconditioned 74 VDC power outputs, one Ethernet port to communicate with an external device and the JEM PS Config Tool for gathering data and program changes. Three (3) inputs for controlling the output power state. The Power Shedder must be used in combination with the Power Line Filter which provides the input circuit breaker, surge protection and “clean” 74VDC power. There are two panel configurations that provide the Power Line Filter, Power Shedder, and associated load circuit breakers.

Specifications

  • Typical operating input voltage is 51.8 to 92.5 VDC.
  • Maximum input voltage is 92.5 VDC.
  • Typical current draw is 80 mA with outputs turned OFF.
  • Maximum current is 10A for each output, but not more than 20A total for all six outputs combined.
  • Four conditioned 74 VDC output ports (1 through 4) maintain output voltage above 52 VDC during short duration power sags lasting less than 10 +/- 4 seconds (load dependent) when the combined current for all four of the conditioned ports is less than 10A.
  • Two unconditioned 74VDC output ports (5 and 6) simply follow the input voltage.
  • One IEEE 802.3 10/100M front panel port.
    • 8 pin M12 interface (A coded).
    • Multicast message sent until shutdown timer expires indicating a shutdown sequence in progress.
  • Three 74 VDC input control lines.
    • Knife sense monitors + terminal a circuit associated with the Knife Switch cold side to indicate Knife  OPEN/CLOSED.
    • Engine sense monitors the + terminal of a circuit associated with Engine ON/OFF.
    • Aux sense (future) is not currently used.
  • LED status of Output Active, Link/Activity, and Processor Health.
  • Auto wake-up periodically powers select outputs on a scheduled basis for a configured amount of time.
  • Access Self-Test diagnostics and event data log files using the JEM PS Advanced Config Tool.
  • FCC Part 15 Sub-part B Class A.
  • AAR S-9401 Vehicle Interior Cab Environment; Temperature, Altitude, Humidity, Vibration, Shock, EMI.
